I have just started this game and at the moment I play with the empire.

I had 2 empire deck of the starter box and I had built a 60 cards deck but there is a little problem: I can't win win against the others starter box's decks.

The empire permit a very tactical and annoying game but it's not decisive and at the moment i don't know relly well how to use it; i think that Tall's temple and the judgment of Verena are very powerfull cards but there are no decisive creatures for the victory.

It's not a personal problem because when i use others deck i can win without problems.... :D

And the word "cannot" is absolute in this game - it trumps everything else (card, rule, or otherwise).

As for the "duping with a 'put into play' effect," that is said in the rules for unique cards themselves when it qualifies the "you cannot play, put into play, or take control of a unique card you already own or control in play" part of the rules for unique cards with the term "except for putting a duplicate on a card that you own and control." It does not say "except for putting a duplicate on a card that you own and control by playing it from your hand," so using "put into play" effects to dupe a unique card is fine. The entry on p. 9 of the FAQ even specifically says "Duplicates can only be played or put into play on cards you own and control." So "put into play" effects can duplicate unique cards you already have in play. The Shadow rules also mention it specifically for bringing cards out of Shadows, which is just a specific "put into play" effect.

AGoT Rules Discussion Forum.
johnn0411 said:
For Split loyalties can I pick a char in my opp dead pile that can not be put into play because he has another copy of it in the dead pile thus making it so only i get a char back?
Kind of an interesting question.

The rules for unique cards say that you cannot play, put into play, or take control of a character if you already own or control a copy in play, or that is in your dead pile. With Split Loyalties, you are putting the character from you opponent's discard pile into play under his control. He is not putting it into play and you are not taking control of it, so there is a really good argument to be made that, since what is in his dead pile has no bearing on your actions, you choosing a character in his discard pile when there is a copy in his dead pile, and putting it into play under his control is perfectly legal. In short, using Split Loyalties as you suggest ends up with him getting that character in play, even with another copy in his dead pile, because he hasn't broken the rules for unique cards (he did not play, put into play, or take control of the unique card), and neither have you (there was no copy in your dead pile).

Note that there is no rule anywhere that says if a copy of a character is in your dead pile, you have to discard all other copies in play. Copies in the dead pile prevent you from putting a new one into play, but does not invalidate any that might otherwise be legally in play.

If that answer seems a little too weird or to rely on technicalities, welcome to AGoT. Seriously, though, the other possible answer is that if there is a copy in the opponent's dead pile, the copy in his discard pile would be an illegal target that you could not choose with the event. Those are your choices: it's either an illegal target, or you can put it into play (unless you happen to have a copy in your dead pile, which would make it an illegal target).

johnn0411 said:
Can you attach a event that becomes an attachment such as a boon to a char that is immune to events?
Depends on how the effect is worded, but I'll give you the standard answer to this question.

Say you have an event that says "choose and discard an attachment." Can that event take an attachment off of a character that is immune to events? It certainly can because immunity only protects the card from the direct impact of whatever it is immune to. When an event discards an attachment, it is working directly on the attachment, and only indirectly on the character the attachment is on. Since immunity does not protect from indirect effects, the event could remove the attachment from the event-immune character. The exception to that, of course, would be if the event directly targets the character in any way (eg, "choose a character; discard all attachments from that character") because immunity prevents the character from being chosen as a target by what it is immune to (the event).

Apply that same reasoning to putting attachments on a character. It's the same thing, just happening in reverse, right? So when an event card says something like "attach this card as a Boon attachment to a Stark character" for example, it is working directly on itself - turning itself into an attachment - and only indirectly on whatever character it ends up on. So event immunity will not "protect" from this indirect action of the event. The exception, of course, is if the event instead says something like "choose a character; attach this card to it as a Boon attachment" because now the event is directly targeting the character - something prevented by immunity.

1. First of all, you cannot have more than one copy of a unique card in play or in your dead pile, so your situation wouldn't work. There can be multiple copies of a non-unique card in your dead pile, but there is nothing that stops them from coming into play.

His opponent has a character in their discard pile (lets say it's Sansa) and another Sansa in their dead pile. Lets also say he has The Red Viper in his discard pile. He wishes to play Split Loyalties to choose 2 unique characters in 2 different discard piles. So he chooses The Red Viper and Sansa. However, Sansa is also in that opponents dead pile so she can't be in play. The question is, can he still use the event and get his character put into play and his opponent gets nothing?

I personally like to make insanity gain from Lovecraftian aspects, where the characters are mentally pained by witnessing something incomprehensible to the human mind.

Ideas for Insanity gain:

An flesh-bound book that radiates warp energy, simply looking at it causes a fear check. A successful Forbidden Lore(The Warp) test reveals that it is made of daemonic flesh, and it may very likely have chaos energy still rippling through it. The book cover has a contorted face that is constantly moving. If they pass their fear check, they may pick it up, but by simply touching it they are offered a dark pact with a ruinous power. (Take the player away from the table, all interaction with the daemon is telepathic, so nobody else at the table will be aware of what happens.) Furthermore, opening the book exposes the viewer to knowledge that no human should ever experience. It grants them a permanent +5 bonus on Forbidden Lore(The Warp), but at the cost of 3d10 insanity points, and a -30 fear test.

Somewhat of a cheap shot, but the room that the Pontiff resides in is stretched in impossible dimensions, and the angles of the room are Escheresque and incomprehensible. The room bends and distorts the 3 dimensional plane, to the point that the acolytes' vision is slowly overcome by impossibility that they begin to see in only 2 dimensions.

As for corruption...
Anytime they are exposed to the taint of Tzeentch, they must make toughness tests. If they attack the Pontiff with melee, they gain corruption. If the Pontiff attacks them, they gain corruption. When the Pontiff dies and summons a lesser daemon of Tzeentch, warp energy radiates out from his corpse, causing corruption gain.

If the players pick up the Daemon weapon that the Pontiff has, they gain corruption.

When they slaughter the innocent people of the city, the ruinous powers of chaos feed on such atrocities, acolytes gain corruption.

Those are all assuming my previous ideas are being used, but either way you can draw on them.
Also, depending on when the acolytes are to perform the corruption ritual, it could be fueling true mutations throughout the city, doubling or tripling the corruption transferred. So the acolyte loses 5 corruption, but the body that it's channeled into gains 15 CP.

The railroad:
No, it's not that bad. There are published adventures that are far worse. My point was simply that the most enjoyable adventures let the players decide their course of action, and the GM reacts to that. Rather than having a set way of how things need to be accomplished, the players will gain the most enjoyment from a free-form adventure that reacts to their actions.

Regardless of how things are plotted or schemed by Tzeentch, the chaotic power of free thought is always enjoyable to daemons. Tzeentch's insane plot succeeds when the Acolytes decide to do what Tzeentch wanted them to do all along. That is true satisfaction.

The only real problem I see with the railroad, is the repetitive crashes and black-outs. I know that my players would get annoyed with that, unless I had some mechanical explanation, like "I rolled percentiles to see if the pilot is able to correct himself after being blinded, but he failed."

Hope that helps.

The original Netrunner was based on the Cyberpunk 2020 property and the Android: Netrunner, like the name says, is based on the Android setting. I am not a great fan of Cyberpunk 2020: it was a cash on the latest bandwagon kind of setting. If you were to publish Bladerunner: the Board Game and change the art style, I would be crossed because Bladerunner is a classic and a trendsetter but Netrunner was too run to the mill for me to care. Mind you that I am not championing the Android setting: it too looks generic but slightly more colorful and cleaner than Cyberpunk 2020. Just by naming their product differently I think FFG has justified their change of setting. I understand that this is a calculated business decision but WotC did the same thing when they licensed Cyberpunk 2020 for the original Netrunner.

The Commissars can't be Rare if the rulebook itself mentions the possibility of joining a lone Commissar to a Commissar squad.

Pretty sure Nikolai doesn't have those skills. Giving the Commissar skill to a hero is pointless, since heroes already do everything a Commissar does (except for not counting as a hero, but that would be crazy). Nikolai is said to be a tank commander, an uncanny marksman with a walker, so I don't see why he'd have Command (and they'd probably have mentioned it if he did, everybody's been anxious for a Commander since ever).

On a side note, I'd much prefer an Armor 3 Commander than Armor 2. It's the Heavy Command Squads that go into the thick of the battle and could really benefit from a longer lifespan.

Another thing that I think helps Azrell argument is if we look at the size of the two games and then contrast them. Dust Tactics is very much a squad based game played at them platoon level (absolutely NOTHING wrong with this) so by nature there are less models to manage and you want to get the most out of each of them which is part of the reason the stats in Tactics for most weapons are more deadly, to force those cover saves Peace mentioned. I will agree that Tactics is a very streamlined game however Dust Warfare is a different animal. We are now dealing with forces at the company level and even at the small game size of 150 Army Points you can field a lot of men (or Zombies, Gorillas, ect). Then general idea it seems is that the designers wanted to keep the game just as streamlined, enter in the unit cover/armor saves where all your are doing is rolling once set of dice to determine the out come of shooting or close combat. As well, with the unit save we get a reduction in weapon damage and ranges from Tactics so one unit doesn't super mega over power said unit saves. The idea, at least to me anyway, is to portray fierce and fast pace combat. Not to mention that from how the rule book is written there is a heavy focus on each unit of men (or zombies, gorillas, ect.) working together as a Squad.

I was a little turned off to the group save, but as soon as I started getting in a few games in I was all about it. It really did make the game faster and though the results can be very brutal I kind of enjoy that sort of game play. I want the game to be brutal and for units to get wiped out, it makes for a more visceral and cinematic game I find, all while keeping the game turns quick. Part of the reason I don't really like 40k anymore is that it tends to take at least an hour or two to make it though a game, half the time you don't get to do anything besides watching your opponent and then roll armor or cover saves. Every game of DW I have played so far has had me truly engaged, and since it only takes 30-45mins per game it is easier to experiment with forces and try out new ideas. Is it a perfect game? As the topic of this thread states there is some serious confusion with a few of the rules it seems, however the FAQ was out after only two/three weeks after the main rule book came out shows that FFG is trying to take this game seriously.

Now if only SSU would come out...

Actually, 150 points of Dust Tactics and 150 points of Dust Warfare would be the same amount of troops as the prices have not changed that much (other than Zombies).

Second it is slower to roll armor saves every time you get hit then it is to roll cover saves if and only if you are in cover and are entitled to a save. Armor is already figured into the attack matrix, so to have a second armor save is redundant. I am not saying it doesnt work, I am saying it is not intuitive. Yes, armor saves allow more of a variety in weapon damages against specific armor class types. And it doesnt make sense (even if it is a fictional setting in a alternate timeline with dead hitler, zombies, talking apes, walking tanks and alien tech) that the quality of your armor grows greater with the fewer you have in your squad and weaker with the more. Armor in a AC2 squad could only save everyone if 1) the damage was 2 or less and 2) if there were 2 or less people in the squad. While there is no way a bunch of guys hiding behind hard cover can ever benefit from the cover unless the damage inflicted was incredibly low.

So you go from cover being good to being "useless" in some situations (mass shooting makes it useless as its doubtful that the attacker will do less than 2 wounds on a sustained attack) while if you use the old blank/hit hard/soft cover rules and no armor save from Dust Tactics then you would, on average, be rolling less dice.

Its a IMHO thing. Its not right, its not wrong, Its the way the rules are written, and I believe, IMHO that this rule (cover/armor save) as well as CC verticle are bad poorly written and would benefit from some DT mergers.

So I dont buy the idea of its saves time to reduce cover saves to static numbers. You would still be rolling your armor saves every attack anyway.
